The lack of available data on diets is a key obstacle to the development of evidence-based policies and programs to address emerging nutrition challenges in low- and middle-income countries. Intake wants to be a part of the solution. We help to fill the gap in the availability of actionable information on diets through providing technical assistance for the planning, design, collection, analysis, and use of dietary data.

Technical Assistance Services

  • STATISTICAL SERVICES

    Technical advice on study design, sample design and sample size, and on data analysis plans.

  • PRE-SURVEY WORK

    Guidance on protocol development, survey planning, and the development of survey tools and inputs unique to a quantitative 24-hour recall dietary survey, including: the food, recipe, and ingredient listing (FRIL); the assignment of appropriate portion size estimation methods (PSEMs) to each item included in the FRIL; and the preparation of the standard recipe database, the PSEM conversion factor database, and the food composition database for the survey.

  • TRAINING FOR SURVEY IMPLEMENTATION

    Training on the interactive 24-hour recall method and on simple food group recall methods.

  • DATA CLEANING AND PROCESSING

    Guidance on data quality assurance and data processing, with an emphasis on data cleaning concurrent with data collection.

  • ANALYSIS, INTERPRETATION, AND PRESENTATION OF DATA

    Customized technical assistance and training suited to user capacity, survey design, and analysis objective.
